a new little place...

Welcome to my new little place, where a collaboration of seasonal, organic & natural living, crafts, and thirftyness will be shared.
Blogging is a brand new venture for me & sharing ideas about 'treading lightly' is my little way of perhaps inspiring others to follow this path too.

There are two things in life that I really, really do love.
The first -- is foraging through opshops, garage sales, and flea markets for wonderful finds. It excites me so much. I love old things with character; things that one day were so loved and are now being passed on for another being to love. Nostalgic, lovely finds.

As most of us already know, opshopping is very environmentally friendly. Not only are we avoiding mass produced, cheap clothing that only lasts a season, but we are also avoiding the build-up of landfill, we are not supporting slave labour, and we are of course saving money.
Sometimes I get so excited about opshopping, and I know I am not the only one. So many people really love it and I think that is a great and wonderful thing. Other times I feel a bit scared 'what if suddenly all this lovely second hand stuff just gets snatched up and one day opshopping is no longer?'.
And sometimes  I feel a bit selfish because I just want to get into that opshop as soon as possible so that I can snap up the best buys before anyone else sees them!! I have to remind myself how great it is that its loved by many people.
Luckily, I live in a pretty small town, so our 'local' is normally pretty quiet!
I usually get that rush of excitement for opshopping about once per week, and I make the time, and just HAVE to get there!

As you can probably imagine, I have a pretty big collection of finds now.

This brings me to my next love: Aprons.
Probably because I also love to cook and bake. But aprons, wow. A lovely one just gets me every time.
So, I decided to use all my opshop finds and MAKE aprons. ‘April’s Apron’s’. They are my little way of using up some of this stuff on our planet, of 'treading lightly' and up-cycling till my heart’s content..
Finding the materials, dreaming of each apron, and then making them with heaps and heaps of love... I just adore it!

That feeling of creating something from nothing much at all -- just gotta love it!

Here are a few from my very nostalgic gingham collection, made from old doileys, a big pile of cream cotton I found at a garage sale, old gingham shirts and another pile of gingham fabric scraps for 50c. (There are a few naughty peices of new cotton lace in there too!)
I do hope you enjoy.
